In 25 April, Portuguese people celebrate its revolution day, the freedom from the dictator Almeida Salazar who govern Portugal from 1933 to 1974. Though being a dictator, oddly enough he won the Portuguese version of the TV Show the Greatest Portuguese.

Being a National holiday and Lisbon the Portugal capital, Lisbon shops will be close in general and traffic highly reduced (watch out for the Av da Liberdade)

25 April Holiday is a day of both celebration of freedom, remembering of the Heroes called the April Captains, “Capitães de Abril”, and political and social claims around the rights earned right after the drop of the dictatorship regime.

You can pay him a tribute going to a plate near Largo do Carmo and/or”Ruinas do Convento do Carmo, a set of ruins of a old cathedral, what was left after a huge fire that destroyed it.
